Mulyoto Pangestu

Mulyoto Pangestu is a research and teaching staff at Education Program in Reproductive Biology, Monash Institute of Medical Research, Melbourne. He is also lecturer at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Jenderal Soedirman University Purwokerto. He holds his PhD Degree in 2002 from Monash Institute of Reproduction and Development Faculty of Medicine, Monash University, and his master degree at the same university. He was assigned as Research Assistant at Monash Institute of Reproduction and Development (1999 2002) and Research Fellow at Monash Institute of Reproduction and Development (2003-2004).

In year 2001, he was awarded the Gold Award for Asian Young Inventor Award by FEER and Hewlett Packard. He also was awarded NIH Grants (1999 - 2002) on mouse sperm cryopreservation, and Monash IVF Grants (2003 - 2004) on preservation and transplantation ovarian tissue.

Potency and problem in science and technology research in Indonesia toward global competition

Research in science and technology play an important role for a country to gain a better bargaining position in global competition. Indonesia having a stagnancy and misdirection on its science and technology research. Despite Indonesian potential resources such as institutions, human resources, equipments, funds, and natural resources, the problems are the domination of some institutions, lack of collaboration among local or foreign institutions, difficulties in obtaining chemicals and publications.

Efforts are required to solve the problems, institutional collaborations, informations and publications, materials supply and price, public appreciations, and research auditing need to be done and enhanced to gain higher position for Indonesia in global competition, through research in science and technology.
